Just Do It, Said the Mango Tree: A Lesson in Letting Go

From City Logic to Nature’s Wisdom

Nature works in mysterious, graceful ways—often beyond our city-trained logic.

There’s a towering mango tree on our land—at least 30 to 50 feet high. It’s ancient, wise, and unlike anything I ever saw while growing up in the city. As its mangoes began to appear last month, I felt a mix of wonder and helplessness. They were far too high to pluck with a stick. My urban brain quickly calculated the outcome: “We’ll only get to eat them if they fall… and by then they’ll be smashed or eaten by birds.”

So, I let go. I resigned to the fate of lost mangoes.

The Surprise Beneath the Bamboo Leaves

But nature had other plans. This past week, mangoes started to fall. And to my surprise, most of them were in perfect shape. Sweet, juicy, sun-ripened. Only about 10% were bruised or bird-bitten. The rest? They landed gently on a thick, natural bed of dried bamboo leaves—a mulch blanket I didn’t place there intentionally. It just was. The earth had prepared a soft landing in silence. And I was gifted ripe fruit, against all my logical expectations.

Letting Go of Overthinking

How ironical.

My city-bred, analytical mind had already ruled out the possibility. It had overthought the problem and given up on a solution. But nature, in her quiet wisdom, just did what she always does—trusts the process.

And maybe that’s the real lesson.

Sometimes, in life and in farming, we overanalyze. We wait for perfect timing, perfect conditions, and perfect plans. But nature reminds us: Just do the work. Let go. Life will catch you.

The Mango Tree’s Message: Just Do It

I’ve always loved Nike’s phrase: Just Do It.
But here, in the shade of this mango tree, it means something deeper. Not just action, but trust. Faith. Forward motion without needing control.

So here’s a gentle reminder from a mango tree in Goa:
Do the work. Stay present. Let go of the outcome. And life, in its quiet, regenerative rhythm, will meet you halfway.
